July/August bookhaul

I’m not planning on buying anymore books this month (my wallet is empty), so I might as well post this now.

In July, I officially graduated from my first Masters in Law (cum laude) at University. Of course I felt I was entitled to buy myself something to celebrate this achievement. I bought Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Illustrated Edition. I’ve had my eye on it since it came out but it never felt right to buy it for myself. The artwork is just stunning:

The good news is that I graduate from my second Masters in December, so that would be a good occasion to buy Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition 😉

August

In August I bought four books that were on sale online:

  • The Miseducation of Cameron Post: I’ve read mixed reviews about this one. I barely read any books that center around diversity, but this just seems really interesting. Plus, I love the cover.
  • Death Note: Black Edition, Vol. 1: I’ve bought a few graphic novels lately. However, I had never read a manga before and was really interested to pick one up. Death Note is one that I’ve only read positive reviews of, so I thought I would give it a try (I’m currently reading it and loving it so far).
  • And I Darken (Conqueror’s Saga, #1): I’ve had this book on my wishlist for sooo long, waiting for it to come out. I’ve only heard great things about it. But when it finally came out it was a bit expensive in The Netherlands in the online store where I always shop for English novels. I waited for the price to go down and bought it just now. I’m participating in a read-a-thon, for which I already have a set list of books to read, but I will pick it up ASAP afterwards.
  • Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1): I’ve already read Illuminae in March in paperback. I loved it so much that I couldn’t resist also buying the hardcover now that it was on sale. It is so beautiful!

And then I decided to pick up another book:

  • The Iliad by Homer: I had to translate pieces from this from ancient Greek to Dutch in high-school. Ancient Greek and Latin were definitely my favourite subjects in high-school. The Illiad was my favourite text to translate, I just love all the characters. Even though this translation is also available online and in e-books on the public domain, I really wanted a physical copy of my own. This one is from the Penguin Clothbound Classics and is just stunning! Because of the price I’ve postponed buying this but finally decided to get it nonetheless.
